About Me

In my sustained investigation, I have decided to focus on using photography and Photoshop to show how femininity manifests in my family and how growing up with many female influences has impacted my sisters and me. At the beginning of my investigation, my work leaned more towards documentary photography that shows objects that symbolize ideas of what it means to be a girl growing up as seen in Cameraless Series and Worn. As I have grown in my artistic process this year, I have used collages in many of my pieces such as Self Portrait and The Life Before Me to show the many different parts that make up a person and the chaos of life. In works such as Get in the Groove! and Star Pants, I often added more grain and filtered my works to evoke a sense of nostalgia central to my experience coming of age as a teenage girl. Lastly, my color palette includes pastels and shades of purple and pink and I repeatedly use flower motifs in Kaleidoscope Kate, In Bloom, and White Magnolia to symbolize femininity and maturation.
